Required Courses Offered: Administrative Communication, Business Information Systems Applications, Business Information Systems and Technology, Clinical Studies in BCIT, Field Experience in BCIT, Instructional Strategies and Assessment in BCIT, Telecommunications, Training and Development and Professional Semester in BCIT.

Elective courses offered: Classroom Management and Effective Discipline, Foundations of Educational Research, Multicultural Education, Orientation to Exceptionalities, Reading in Content Area, along with School Law and Finance and Studies in Diversity.

 

M.Ed Track with Certification - 46 credits

  • Obtain BCIT Certification K-12 by PDE
  • Blended program, mostly on-line
  • 12 required courses and six electives
  • Students teach 16 weeks in a PA public school district

Instructional Internship in Business, Computer, and Information Technology (BCIT)

The Instructional Internship in Business, Computer, and Information Technology (BCIT) provide students with certification to teach grades K-12 in Pennsylvania schools. It is designed to allow those who teachers who were hired by a school district without certification to gain access to Internship certification while teaching. All requirements must be completed within three calendar years from the date the Internship certification is issued. Once completed, students will have a Master’s degree from Bloomsburg University and can move to the next tier of licensure.

Please note: The Instructional Internship certification is not renewable after three calendar years.

Students

If you are currently teaching on emergency certification, or are considering a job as a business teacher in Pennsylvania and do not currently have teaching certification and have accepted a teaching business teaching position, then the Instructional Internship is for you. You can complete the program in as little as three years while earning your Master’s degree in Business Education. The program is hybrid, and many of the required courses can be completed fully online. After you have completed the Internship requirements including Master’s degree requirements, then you may qualify for the next tier of certification which is Instructional I certification.

Administrators

If your school is having difficulty finding a certified business education teacher then the Instructional Internship in BCIT may be beneficial. School districts from all over Pennsylvania can take advantage of the Instructional Internship in BCIT and have a fully licensed business education teacher in the classroom under the supervision of teacher educators who are former business teachers.

In order to qualify for the Instructional Internship in BCIT, these requirements must be met as required by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE):

  • All clearances on file and current as of one year 
  • Passed Praxis II tests: Fundamental Subjects and Business Education Content Knowledge
  • Be of good moral character
  • Be 18 or older
  • Hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree AND a minimum of a 3.0 GPA
  • Enrolled in a Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) approved Intern program (Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania)
  • Secure a full-time or long-term (one year minimum) substitute position in business education
  • Submitted an application through the TIMS website

Bloomsburg University is approved to offer Education programs that lead to certification in Pennsylvania. While we regularly monitor licensure/certification laws in each state, state requirements are subject to change without notice. If you are interested in certification outside of Pennsylvania, we encourage you to contact the appropriate state licensing agency to seek guidance and verify requirements before beginning a program and during your program of study.
