Troy Platukus, OWL treasurer
Hey Everyone! I am a Junior Digital Forensics major with a minor in Criminal Justice from Wilkes-Barre, PA. I am the Treasurer for the OWLs, which means I handle all of our organization’s funds, make deposits, and all of that fun stuff. Outside of OWLs I’m also involved with Bloomsburg University’s Community Government Association (Student Government) and Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity. When I have time to myself my favorite thing to do is to watch movies. I definitely consider myself a film buff.
Why I chose Bloomsburg
Out of all the reasons I chose Bloomsburg there are 3 that truly stick out to me. The first is the fact that we offer a major as unique as Digital Forensics. Believe it or not we are one of only a handful of schools that offers this major, not to mention our program is very highly regarded.
The next reason would have to be the “home away from home” feeling I got once I stepped on campus. I can’t exactly put it into words but there was this feeling inside of me that was telling me I was exactly where I wanted to be. The extent of my time on Bloomsburg’s campus at this point was no more than a single hour-long tour, but I knew I had found my future home.
Lastly I loved the feeling of being on a campus. There are some schools in the city where schools only have certain buildings which you have classes in. At Bloomsburg, being on campus and being in town are two very distinct feelings, which I really enjoy. Not to mention it’s a quick walk to all of your classes.
My favorite thing about Orientation
Undoubtedly, it's helping the incoming students get acclimated to college life. Nothing makes me happier than seeing the new students’ excitement over coming to college. Additionally, it’s incredibly gratifying if I can help ease their transition in any way, especially by making them feel welcome to the university.
One thing I wish I knew as a senior in high school
If I could go back to senior year the advice I wish I had known is simple. Branch out from your comfort zone, don’t fear failure, and put in work for your classes. These three things are keystones to helping your college experience get off to a great start, and will put you on the right path to crafting the best years of your life.
