TRiO "Bounders" walk the walk, with chalk

A little beautification of Berwick was recently provided by BU’s TRiO Upward Bound summer academy students, who spent an afternoon decorating Canal Street Bridge with chalk art. The community project, TRiO Upward Bound’s seventh annual Service Day, is one of many activities and programs designed to help high school students explore their potential for academic, social and personal growth.

TRiO Upward Bound provides high school students with opportunities and assistance in exploring their potential for academic, social and personal growth. Its purpose is to provide equal access to post-secondary education for high school students by giving them adequate preparation.

In addition to the community service day, TRiO Upward Bound recently hosted The Actors Company Theatre (TACT) — a company of actors from New York City who present neglected or rarely produced plays. Their focus is to create theatre from its essence … actors' ability to bring text to life. TACT led a workshop with Upward Bound students.

These goals are achieved by providing students with developmental work in areas where they may need help, enrichment where they are strong and exposure to new areas where they have yet to be challenged. This is done through tutoring for grade improvement, counseling to address career and personal matters, counseling on the college admissions and financial aid processes. #SenseOfCommunity
