Rec Use Policies

Guidelines apply to all groups (university and non-university groups), who utilize the Rec for activities.

Permission to utilize the facility must be gained a minimum of one month in advance from the Rec's governing board and Community Government Association.

Requests for summertime usage must be submitted prior to the last governing board meeting of the spring semester. Guidelines for reserving facilities can be found in the Rec's policies and procedures handbook.

Priority of Usage

  • Open recreation
  • Intramural sports
  • Club sports & student organizations
  • Intercollegiate athletics practices
  • Intercollegiate competition, tournaments, sponsored events (including summer camps)
  • Non-university groups & programs

Guidelines for general events

(Events that don't require the entire activity area to be closed for general use)
  • The use of the Rec is to be requested as a last resort, when both Nelson Fieldhouse and Centennial Gym, and any other applicable university facilities are not available.
  • Activities should be scheduled to avoid peak hours (3 to 8:30 p.m., Monday through Friday) when possible. The fitness (cardio) room and weight room will not be available for exclusive use under any circumstances.
  • Groups lower on the list of usage priority will not be "bumped" by higher level groups once they are scheduled. Use priority is in effect if two or more groups are simultaneously requesting the same time period.
  • All Rec reservation form policies must be followed for reservation request to be honored.

Guidelines for exclusive events

(Events that require exclusive use of the main arena or multi-purpose room)
  • Exclusive use of the multi-purpose room should be scheduled as to avoid peak Rec hours.
  • All four courts of the main arena may not be reserved by the same group at one time between Monday and Thursday during the fall or spring semester.
  • Rental fees are based on a per court-per hour rate and are subject to change periodically. See the Rec director for current fees.
  • If time is needed outside of normal Rec operating hours, an additional charge will be incurred by the group to cover staffing.
  • Holidays, and times when staffing could be difficult, may cause an increase in rental fees.
  • Groups lower on the list of usage priority will not be "bumped" by higher level groups once they are scheduled. Usage priority is in effect if two or more groups are simultaneously requesting the same time period.
  • The facility can not be reserved for open recreation use nor can open recreation "bump" a legitimately scheduled program.
