The Engineering Science 3+2 program consists of three years at Bloomsburg followed by two years at Penn State.

After five years, students receive a B.A. from Bloomsburg (most often in Physics or mathematics, although other majors are possible) along with a B.S. in engineering from Penn State. The program is rigorous and is intended for advanced students.

Students must enter the program as first year students. It is not possible to transfer into the program from other universities.

Students should be prepared to start with Calculus I during their first semester, although it is possible to complete the program starting with pre-calculus. Students who place in a lower math class will need to take math over the summer prior to their first semester in order to be able to finish the Bloomsburg portion of the program in three years.

Students must maintain a minimum GPA (in all courses taken) of 3.00 for programs in the College of Engineering and 2.75 for programs in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences.

Students must apply to Penn State after their first semester of their third year.

The following programs are currently available to our students through the 3+2 program:

In Penn State’s College of Engineering:

  • Biological Engineering
  • Computer Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Engineering Science
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Nuclear Engineering

In Penn State’s College of Earth and Mineral Sciences:

  • Environmental Systems Engineering
  • Material Science and Engineering
  • Polymer Science Engineering
  • Mining Engineering
  • Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering
  • Energy Engineering

This information is current as of June 16, 2010. For more information about these programs and application procedures, you should consult Penn State Engineering School’s website.

Prospective students should contact Ju Xin, Ph.D., Coordinator of Engineering Science 3+2, for the latest specific requirements for the program of study they desire at 570-389-5309.
