BU Graduate Student Receives Nursing Educator Scholarship

BLOOMSBURG – A Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania graduate nursing student has received a $5,000 scholarship from the Pennsylvania Higher Education Foundation in memory of G. Fred DiBona Jr., former president and CEO of Independence Blue Cross.

Scholarship recipient Kelly Ryan of Mount Carmel is enrolled in the graduate-level RN to MSN program at Bloomsburg University. The scholarship is awarded to graduate nurses pursuing a career in nursing education. 

The G. Fred DiBona Jr. Scholarship was created to honor the legacy of DiBona and his advocacy for nurse educators. The board of directors of the Pennsylvania Higher Education Foundation approved the creation of a $5,000 scholarship for approximately 30 Pennsylvania graduate schools of nursing. PHEF partnered with Independence Blue Cross in providing $750,000 a year for the scholarships.

Bloomsburg University is one of 14 universities in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. The university serves approximately 8,000 students and offers 65 bachelor’s, 18 master’s and one doctoral degree.
