General Education Requirements (Goal 8)

GOAL 8: Demonstrate basic communication skills in a second language. (Min 2 GEPs)

Complete any of the courses in the Approved Courses list on the right for Goal 8.
Complete a second language course beyond the 102 level (for example, Spanish 203 rather than Spanish 102).
Demonstrate basic skills in a second language by taking a short placement test. (https://www.bloomu.edu/opa/placement_language for more information)
Additional options for applied and intensive language study will become available in the coming year.

Goals

Approved Courses

Goal 1 - Communicate effectively in writing, oral presentation, and visual argument. (Min 7 GEPs, must come from at least three disciplines)
Goal 2 - Find, evaluate, and ethically use information using appropriate technology. (Min 2 GEPs)
Goal 3 - Apply critical analysis, quantitative reasoning, and problem solving skills. (Min 5 GEPs, must come from at least two disciplines)
Goal 4 - Apply knowledge from the humanities and other disciplines to analyze: the implications of diversity among human groups, their histories, cultures, and the plurality of human experiences. (Min 5 GEPs, must come from at least two disciplines)
Goal 5 - Demonstrate knowledge of natural sciences principles, concepts, and methods. (Min 5 GEPs, must come from at least two disciplines)
Goal 6 - Demonstrate knowledge of social sciences principles, concepts, and methods. (Min 5 GEPs, must come from at least two disciplines)
Goal 7 - Apply knowledge from the arts and humanities to analyze, evaluate, or participate in the artistic and literary traditions of our diverse world. (Min 5 GEPs, must come from at least two disciplines)
