For Immediate Release:  March 28, 2014

BLOOMSBURG— Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania is wrapping up the 2013-2014 Celebrity Artist Series season with a gift from sponsors to the community, a free performance by the Pedrito Martinez Group.

World-class conga player, singer and bandleader Pedrito Martinez and his band will perform on Sunday, April 13, at 7 p.m. in Carver Hall, Kenneth S. Gross Auditorium. Tickets are complimentary, but required, as seating will be limited.

Cuban-born jazz musician Pedrito Martinez first performed as a vocalist and percussionist at the age of 11. In 2000, at the age of 25, he won first place when the annual Thelonius Monk Institute Competition showcased Afro-Latin hand drumming for the first time. Martinez’s sound is featured on more than 100 albums in collaborations with Sting, Paul Simon, Wynton Marsalis and other artists.

The complimentary performance is a part of BU’s 175th anniversary celebration. There will be room for dancing in Gross Auditorium during the show.
