O’Riley renews CAS piano concerts

BLOOMSBURG — Bloomsburg University Celebrity Artist Series’ Piano Concerts return with Christopher O’Riley, who will perform his solo show, “Out of My Hands,” as a part of BU’s celebration of its 175th anniversary.

The performance will be on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 8 p.m. in Kenneth S. Gross Auditorium, Carver Hall. Tickets are $30 for adults and $15 for children and BU students.

O’Riley, pianist and national media personality, has performed worldwide and hosted NPR’s “From the Top,” a program that showcases young classical musicians. With a repertoire that includes classics by Rachmaninoff, Beethoven, Chopin, Ravel and Busoni as well as re-imagined pieces by contemporary artists, he unites his fan base by bridging classical and popular music.

“Out of My Hands” includes 12 classical piano transcriptions of songs taken from the repertoire of pop and rock ’n’ roll artists such as Radiohead, Pink Floyd, Elliot Smith, The Smiths and Nirvana.
