BLOOMSBURG — A wilderness first aid program, sponsored by Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania’s Quest program, will be held Saturday and Sunday, March 9 and 10, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Monty’s on upper campus.

The course, Wilderness First Aid/Wilderness First Responder Recertification, is offered by the Wilderness Medicine Institute, a branch of the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS).

The wilderness first aid program is an introductory-level course designed to provide outdoor leaders, guides and rangers with an introduction to first aid and patient care in remote settings. Topics include wound management and infection, realigning fractures and dislocations, improvised splinting techniques, patient monitoring and long-term management problems, plus up-to-date information on environmental emergencies.

The course focuses on treatment and quick decision making. Participants who complete the course will receive a two-year wilderness first aid certification from the Wilderness Medicine Institute of the NOLS.
