Empty Bowls benefit local food cupboard

Empty Bowls For immediate release: March 19, 2012

BLOOMSBURG — BU's annual Empty Bowls Banquet is observing its 10th anniversary of serving soup to draw attention to local hunger.

This year’s banquet will be held on Sunday April 1, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. in Bloomsburg University’s Kehr Union Ballroom. This fundraising event benefits the Bloomsburg Food Cupboard and is sponsored by the SOLVE volunteer office.

The Bloomsburg Food Cupboard is a non-profit organization run by volunteers. Striving to meet emergency food needs, its objective is to fight hunger. In 2011, the organization had a total of 15,250 visits. Already, more than 59 new families visited in 2012.

The Empty Bowls Banquet event includes a dessert sale, entertainment and children’s activities. The bowls used to serve the community are handmade by local artists. The minimum donation is $5 for BU students, $10 for adults and free for children under 5.
