Rock Out at BU’s 2011 Homecoming

immediate release: Sept. 30, 2011

BLOOMSBURG — Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania will hold its annual homecoming celebration on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 7 and 8. This year’s theme is Rock ’n’ Roll Legends.

A parade will begin Saturday, Oct. 8, at 11 a.m. on Lightstreet Road near Bloomsburg Hospital and end on Market Street by the Town Park. Since both BU and Bloomsburg High School will be celebrating their homecomings, the procession will feature floats from both schools. Additionally, both schools’ homecoming courts will be honored. The grand marshals are Ed and Nancy Edwards.

Following the parade, Roongo’s Rock ’n’ Roll Tent Party will be held at noon at the Fenstermaker Alumni House. Music will be provided by Paradox, a Philadelphia-based rock band, and food will be available from vendors. Several contests will take place, ranging from raffles to a Guitar Hero competition. In addition to honoring the class of 1961’s 50-year reunion, there will be meeting areas for classes of 1971, 1981, 1991 and 2001, and Greek organizations.

Bloomsburg University will host two athletic contests on Saturday, as the nationally ranked field hockey team takes on the West Chester Golden Rams at noon at Sports Stadium, and Huskies football faces the Cheyney Wolves at 3:30 p.m. at Redman Stadium. The football game will include a halftime performance by the BU Husky Marching Band. Winners from parade contests will be announced during halftime, and the 2011 BU Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned.
