Women's History Month For immediate release: March 8, 2011

BLOOMSBURG — Sarah Weddington, the attorney who successfully argued the Supreme Court Case, Roe v. Wade, will lecture on Monday, March 14, at 7 p.m. in Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania’s Kehr Union Multicultural Center. The event is free and open to the public.

Weddington’s talk will focus on women as leaders. She will discuss leading women in history and how individuals can enhance their personal leadership potential.

Weddington is best known for her role in Roe v. Wade, the 1973 decision that gave women the right to abortions. In addition to winning the landmark court decision with her late partner Linda Coffee, Weddington was the first woman elected to the Texas State House of Representatives to represent Austin and the first woman appointed general counsel for the United States Department of Agriculture. She later became a special White House adviser to former President Jimmy Carter.

Currently, Weddington is adjunct professor at The University of Texas at Austin and travels worldwide delivering speeches on leadership, her experiences with breast cancer and women's issues.

Weddington’s book, “A Question of Choice,” details the Roe V. Wade case. She was featured in Time Magazine’s 2003 “80 Days that Changed the World” issue for her work on the case.
