Guitar Ensemble ready for concert

For immediate release: Dec. 2, 2010

BLOOMSBURG — The Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania Guitar Ensemble will perform its winter concert Monday, Dec. 6, at 7 p.m., in Carver Hall, Kenneth S. Gross Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public.

Directed by Mathew Slotkin, instructor of music, the concert will feature a modern twist on classics by composers such as Bach, Beethoven and Clementi, as well as contemporary composers including Agustin Barrios, Bèla Bartòk and Ralph Towner.

The ensemble is made up of 19 classical guitar students who will perform in three quartets, one septet and as one large group. There will also be a few solo performances by the students.

“The audience will be surprised by the variety of sounds that a quartet of classical guitars can produce and the different types of music that fit this unusual ensemble,” said Slotkin. “The large ensemble at the end of the concert will also be both a visual and aural treat.”

For more information on the concert contact the BU music department at (570) 389-4284.
