Percussion Ensemble ready for fall concert

For immediate release: Nov. 3, 2010

BLOOMSBURG — The Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania Percussion Ensemble will perform its fall concert Tuesday, Nov. 9, at 7:30 p.m. in Haas Center for the Arts, Mitrani Hall. The concert is free and open to the public.

Directed by Gifford Howarth, assistant professor of music, the concert will feature performances of large ensemble, small ensemble and solo percussion works. A repertoire from J.S. Bach to “electric drums” will be presented by the student ensemble.

Howarth has presented clinics and workshops throughout the United States, Canada, Asia and Europe, focusing on percussion education. He is also the director of the Huskies Marching Band and plans the halftime show each year. Howarth published a percussion method book and composed a series of mallet arrangements.
