For immediate release: Oct. 26, 2010
BLOOMSBURG — The Bloomsburg University Players are debuting their production of the dramatic play, “Anon(ymous).” The play will run from Wednesday to Sunday, Nov. 3 to 7, at 7:30 p.m., including a Sunday matinee at 3 p.m. All performances will be held in the Alvina Krause Theatre, 226 Center St., Bloomsburg. Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for senior citizens and non-BU students and free with a BU student ID.
The play is a modern adaptation of Homer’s “The Odyssey.” The plot follows the journey of a war refugee, Anon, who is shipwrecked off the coast of the United States while trying to escape Southeast Asia. He is washed up on shore where he is tempted to stay surrounded by luxury, but instead begins a journey through the underbelly of the U.S. in search of his identity and his mother.
The production is directed by Ingrid De Sanctis, assistant professor of theatre arts. The cast includes 11 student actors: Philip Czekner, Destiny Deater, Gregory Hoagland, Deanna Kremer, Adriana Maritato, Candyce Musinski, Richard Nazzaro, Michael Porter, Gabriella Russo, Lauren Stover and Natasha Willis.
“The production will be a visual and emotional feast,” said De Sanctis. “The story moves quickly from one place to another. There are twists and turns that go from comedy to strange to wild to heartbreaking. That is really a journey for the audience. I also believe the themes of the script and production will move the audience, reminding us all of our own journeys.”
