BU retirees to serve as parade marshals

BLOOMSBURG — Recent Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania retirees Linda and Mike Sowash are the grand marshals for the BU Homecoming Parade, starting Saturday, Oct. 23, at 11 a.m. at the Bloomsburg Hospital parking lot. Mike Sowash, former director of Kehr Union, retired in December 2009; Linda Sowash, former director of residence life, retired just six months after her husband.

Homecoming The annual parade, following Lightstreet Road, Main Street and Market Street, is one of the highlights of BU’s Homecoming celebration, this year following the theme “Rollin’ the Dice and Enjoying the Nights in Vegas.” Saturday’s events include:

  • Alumni coffeehouse, Fenstemaker Alumni House, 9:30 to 11 a.m.
  • Third annual alumni tent party, Fenstemaker Alumni House, featuring entertainment by the Elvis tribute show, Brad Crum and the Mystery Train Band. Also planned are reunions of the classes of 1960, 1970, 1980, 1990 and 2000, as well as football squads from 1985 and 2000, Act 101/EOP and Board of Governors alumni and Greek organizations. Refreshments will be available at a nominal cost.
  • Football, Huskies vs. West Chester Golden Rams, Redman Stadium, with kickoff at 3:30 p.m. Tickets: $10 for adults; $5 for students and senior citizens.
  • Celebrity Artist Series program, Hotel California: A Salute to the Eagles, Haas Center for the Arts, Mitrani Hall, 8:30 p.m. General admission: $30.

Also planned are the Class of 1960’s 50-year reunion dinner at 6:30 p.m. in Monty’s and the Multicultural Alumni Network reception in the Alumni House following the football game.
