BLOOMSBURG — Dancers from the Tchaikovsky Opera and Ballet Theatre will present the next program in Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania’s Celebrity Artist Series, “Sleeping Beauty.” The ballet will be performed Saturday, March 6, at 7 p.m. in BU’s Hass Gallery for the Arts.

“Sleeping Beauty” is the second of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s three ballets. Composed of a prologue and three acts, the score was completed in 1889 and premiered in St. Petersburg in January 1890. At BU, the full-length ballet will feature live musical accompaniment.

The Tchaikovsky Opera and Ballet Theatre is one of Russia’s most distinguished artistic companies. Since its first performance, “Giselle,” in 1926, the company has produced a growing number of classical and contemporary works with an emphasis on Tchaikovsky’s operas and ballets.

General admission for the BU show is $29. Tickets can be purchased at the Haas Center box office Monday through Friday from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday's box office hours are extended to 7 p.m. when school is in session. On performance days, box office hours are noon to 8 p.m.
