BU makes Kiplinger's top-100 list

BLOOMSBURG — Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania is ranked 82nd on Kiplinger's Personal Finance's 100 Best Values in Public Colleges, 2009-10.

The ranking is based on both academics and affordability, starting with data from more than 500 public four-year colleges and universities. Criteria includes SAT/ACT scores, student/faculty ratio and admission, retention and graduation rates. Also considered are in-state and out-of-state costs and financial aid.

For 2009-10, Kiplinger's top-rated institution is the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. At number 82, BU ranks above institutions including Oklahoma State University, 91; University of Maryland, Baltimore County, 93; Washington State University, 95; and Colorado State University, 99. In addition to BU, Pennsylvania universities on the list are: University of Pittsburgh, 35; Penn State, University Park Campus, 40; West Chester University, 76; Millersville University, 98; and Shippensburg University, 100.

The ranking is included in the February issue of Kiplinger's Personal Finance.

Bloomsburg University is one of 14 universities in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. The university serves approximately 9,000 students, offering comprehensive programs of study in the colleges of Education, Business, Liberal Arts and Science and Technology.
