“The Producers” come to BU
For immediate release: Oct. 15, 2007
BLOOMSBURG — Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania’s 2007-08 Celebrity Artist Series continues with the national tour of the musical, “The Producers,” on Monday, Oct. 29, at 7:30 p.m. in Haas Center for the Arts, Mitrani Hall.
“The Producers” is the story of a down-on-his-luck theatrical producer, Max Bialystock, and his mousy accountant, Leo Bloom, who hatch a scheme to raise more money than needed for a guaranteed Broadway flop and pocket the difference. Described by The New York Times as “a sublimely ridiculous spectacle that will leave you delirious,” Mel Brooks’ musical won a record 12 Tony Awards during its six-year Broadway run that ended in April.
The character of Max Bialystock will be performed by Brad Nacht, who has previously performed in the national tour of “The Full Monty.” His other musical appearances include “Kiss Me Kate,” “The Fantasticks” and “South Pacific.” Austin Owen will play Leo Bloom in his national tour debut. He has previously performed in regional performances of “CATS,” “Godspell,” “Oklahoma” and “Footloose.”
“The Producers” contains adult subject matter and some profanity and is not recommended for children age 12 and younger. Tickets are $25 for adults.
