BLOOMSBURG — Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania will host the third annual Constitution Day on Tuesday, Sept. 18, in the amphitheatre by the Scranton Commons. The event is open to the public free of charge.

Constitution Day will start at 9:30 a.m. with presentations on Constitutional amendments by BU’s politically active student groups Democracy Matters, Model United Nations, Political Science Student Organization (POSSA), University Democrats and College Republicans.

The panel discussion “Is the Constitution Dead?” will be held at 11 a.m., moderated by Jeff Davis, associate professor of history. The panel will consist of Wendy Lee, professor of philosophy; Bruce Rockwood, professor of finance and legal studies; and Neil Strine, assistant professor political science. The professors will respond to questions posed by BU students from the Civic Engagement Living and Learning Community. BU President Jessica Kozloff will speak and introduce the panelists at 10:45 a.m.

At 12:30 p.m., Ian Storrar, director of youth and volunteer programs from Common Cause, will speak. Common Cause is a non-partisan, non-profit organization that encourages people be heard in the political process. At 1 p.m., Daryn Cambridge, assistant director of Democracy Matters National, will make a presentation. BU’s Democracy Matters student organization will discuss the 26th Amendment at 1:45 p.m., followed by music at 2 p.m.

Free pizza will be available for those attending. Everyone attending is invited to bring a recyclable item and receive a BU Green Campus Initiative travel mug free, while supplies last. Constitution Day is sponsored by SOLVE, American Democracy Project and Democracy Matters. Rain location for the event will be the Kehr Union Ballroom.
