BLOOMSBURG — Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania’s Haas Gallery will feature works by Lucinda Luvaas Monday, July 9, through Tuesday, July 31.

“Lucinda Luvaas: Running Through History” is open during regular gallery hours, Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and admission is free to the public. The exhibit features Luvaas’ video pieces and oil paintings designed to both take a look at past events and cause the viewer to make connections between current events and the role they will play in history.

The idea for the four-part exhibit came after the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. Part One is a video that begins with a eulogy to the Twin Towers and continues with World War II and the Gold Rush. Part Two looks at natural disasters and the destruction of a civilization, Part Three focuses on the beginning of the war in Iraq and Part Four is a journey through the western United States depicting the promise of America as well as disappointment and paranoia.

Luvaas’ work has been shown nationally and internationally, including exhibits in New York, California, New Jersey and Canada. Although her primary medium is oil painting, she creates work in varied mediums, including gouache, monotype, etching, painted wall sculpture, casein and, recently, multimedia. Her work has been profiled on “Good Morning, America” and the “San Diego Art Scene.” Luvaas is currently the director and curator of the Mt. San Jacinto College’s Fine Art Gallery in San Jacinto, Calif.
