BU students honored at awards program

BLOOMSBURG—Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania students – most graduating seniors – were recognized for their accomplishments during the annual awards ceremony at the end of the spring semester.
Six seniors received service keys for involvement and leadership in extracurricular activities. They are: Nicole Forst of Pottstown, a music/audio-video recording and mass communications major; Cinda Leonard of Roslyn, a management and mass communications major; Krystal Mueller of Sussex, N.J., a management major; Amy Roche of Alburtis, a computer and information science major; Michelle Rosenzweig of Yardley, a marketing major; and Shannon Smith of Mechanicsburg, a special education/elementary education major.
The following students were honored by departments:
Accounting – Sean McCreary, Lancaster, outstanding accounting senior.
ACT 101/EOP – Wilton Torres, Philadelphia, senior management major, department award; Lynn E. Reichard, Bloomsburg, senior art studio major, Dr. Bryan Award for highest grade-point average; and Stephanie McCray, Wilkes-Barre, senior social work major, and Bianca Pichardo, Philadelphia, senior sociology major, director’s award for leadership and involvement.
Anthropology – Sharon Cabana, Derry, N.H., outstanding senior in anthropology; Joanna Salicki, Lincoln Park, N.J., outstanding junior in anthropology; and Andrea Frantz, Berwick, outstanding junior in anthropology and Michelle E. Bohlin Memorial Scholarship.
Audiology/Speech Pathology – Sarah Snyder, Harrisburg, outstanding senior in audiology/speech pathology.
Biological/Allied Health Sciences – Eric Horstick, Summerdale, outstanding senior in biological science, and Melanie Snyder, Halifax, senior medical imaging major, outstanding student in allied health science.
Business Education and Office Information Systems – Anne Cherasara M/’04, Hazleton, National Business Education Association award of merit; Jessica Snyder, Williamsport, senior business education major, Dr. Emory W. Rarig Jr. Pi Omega Pi Award; Matthew Fisher, Cogan Station, senior, and Terrah Ryan, Coal Township, master’s degree candidate, business education department faculty award; and Tiffany Partlowe, Philadelphia, senior, office information systems department faculty award.
Chemistry – Senior chemistry majors Bethany Hueholt, Berwick, American Institute of Chemists Award, and Jaisen Leffler, Elysburg, American Chemical Society Outstanding Senior award, and sophomore chemistry major Brian Holsey, Royersford, organic chemistry achievement award.
Communication Studies and Theatre Arts – Maryann Cregan, Dublin, Pa., outstanding senior in communication studies; and Lindsay Galbraith, Ridley Park, outstanding senior in theatre arts.
Computer and Information Systems – Amy Roche, Alburtis, senior business computer and information science major, outstanding academic achievement award.
Educational Studies and Secondary Education – Benjamin Blackburn, Milton, senior secondary education/citizenship and political science double major, Egerton Osunde Memorial Social Studies Award.
English – Amy Renninger, Lansdale, outstanding senior secondary education/English major; Molly Clay, Kempton, outstanding senior liberal arts/English major; Lynette Mong, Kennewick, Wash., freshman English/creative writing major, faculty award for creative nonfiction; Erica Clift, Bloomsburg, senior English and philosophy double major, Baillie Award for the Essay; Justin Lee, Stroudsburg, senior secondary education/English major, Fuller Fiction Award; and Charles Rice, Ashland, senior secondary education/English major, Savage Poetry Award.

Exercise Science – Andrew Ludlow, East Stroudsburg, Bill Sproule Award for senior exercise science major with highest GPA.
Finance and Legal Studies – Brian Donato, Landisville, senior majoring in finance, departmental award for outstanding academic achievement.
Geography and Geosciences – Amanda Anderson, Center Valley, outstanding senior in geography/planning; Carrie Richards, Hazleton, outstanding senior in geoscience; and senior geology major John L. Springer, Northumberland, Daniel Tearpock Geology Field Camp Scholarship.
History – Brent Will, Middleburg, James R. Sperry Award for outstanding senior in history.
Languages and Cultures – Outstanding senior awards: Justin Swettlen, Bloomsburg, French and Spanish; Sarah Campbell of Kresgeville, Jeremiah Lynn of Pottsville, and Corey Werner of Pine Grove, German; and Rebecca Bender of Watsontown, Jessie Burleigh of Muncy, Brandi Burlingame of Berwick, and Kerrie McDonough of Waynesboro, Spanish.
Management – Aaron Phillips of Bloomsburg, and Joseph Scopelliti of Berwick, outstanding management seniors.
Marketing – Michelle Rosenzweig, Yardley, senior majoring in marketing, American Marketing Association outstanding student award.
Mass Communications – Shannon Killeen of Madison, N.J., and Kate Wilkens of Haymarket, Va., senior mass communications majors, outstanding advertising/public relations award; senior Jonathan Gass, Sunbury, outstanding journalism award; and senior Stewart Probst, Selinsgrove, outstanding telecommunications award.
Mathematics, Computer Science and Statistics – Megan Hoopes, West Chester, senior majoring in secondary education/mathematics and mathematics, Charles R. Reardin outstanding senior award; Daniel Hoffmaster, Hatboro, senior, departmental award for academic achievement in computer science; and Diane Heindel of Sweet Valley and Jamie Van Horn of Conyngham, both seniors with double majors in mathematics and secondary education/mathematics, departmental award for academic achievement in mathematics.
Music – Spencer Bittner, Catawissa, music/audio-video recording major; Amanda Smith, Berwick, music education major; and Katherine Young, Hatboro, music education major, outstanding graduate awards.
Nursing – Devon Orner of Mount Carmel, senior nursing major, nursing achievement award and Jean Kalat Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Award; Ashley Scheller of Sunbury, senior nursing major, nursing achievement award and Signa Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society Theta Zeta Chapter Award; and Karen Kratz, Sinking Spring, senior nursing major, Signa Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society Theta Zeta Chapter Award.
Philosophy – Erica Clift, Bloomsburg, English and philosophy double major, outstanding graduating philosophy major.
Physics and Engineering Technology – James Kofskie of Bloomsburg, a senior with a double major in secondary education/physics and physics, and Joshua Schlieder of Catawissa, a senior physics major, outstanding achievement in physics.
Political Science – Brent Will of Middleburg and Lloyd Wohlschlegel of Lewisburg, political science top senior awards; and Lauren Cutler, Holland, Pa., chair’s award for the senior who made significant contributions to the department.
Psychology – Sean Flaim, Hazleton, senior majoring in psychology, distinguished student in psychology.
Sociology, Social Work and Criminal Justice – Senior Jamie Longazel, Freeland, outstanding student in criminal justice and Thomas Bonomo Award; senior Jessie Smith, Elysburg, outstanding student in social work; and senior Edward Natale, outstanding student in sociology.
