Max Strickler, orientation workshop leader
Hello everyone! I am a Pre-Physical Therapy major with a minor in Psychology. I’m from good ol Dover, Pennsylvania in York County. I classify myself as a goober that enjoys sending good vibes to everyone I’m around, since I always like to have fun and laugh at really bad jokes. I am a family and friends kind of guy and I always take pride in making them proud and being able to put a smile on their face. I am a HUGE Pittsburgh Steelers/Penguins fan and when it comes to playing sports I enjoy playing tennis and soccer.
During my free time I like to play video games with friends and I’m always down to watch an awesome movie like Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Mad Max and when it’s on Game of Thrones. I am currently the Vice President of the OWLs (Orientation Workshop Leaders). Becoming an OWL was one of the best decisions that I have made in my life alongside with deciding to come to Bloomsburg! I am committed to my duties as an OWL, and I strive to help other students realize just how awesome Bloomsburg really is!
Why I chose Bloomsburg
I chose Bloomsburg because I immediately fell in love with the campus as soon as I had my first tour here. It’s hard to explain the exact feeling that I had, but I just knew that this is where I belonged and that Bloomsburg was going to be my home away from home. When I was looking for colleges I wanted to be far from home, but not too far away and I also didn’t want to be a student at a gigantic university or a small university.
Bloomsburg was the best of both worlds by being a two hour drive away from home and it is a medium sized school. The layout of the campus is convenient by having the academic quad consist of almost all of the academic buildings on campus, which makes it easier when getting from class to class.
The opportunities to get involved are endless at Bloomsburg. Whether it’s joining a sports club, Greek life, or being an OWL there are many ways for you to leave your mark on this campus. Getting involved on this campus has provided me with lifetime friends and memories that I will cherish for the rest of my life.
My favorite thing about Orientation
Along with putting smiles on everyone’s faces I absolutely love helping others in any way possible. It’s difficult to pick my favorite part of orientation since I love all of it, but I can say with confidence that Move In is my favorite. The experience of being the first of many friendly faces that each new student will meet at Bloomsburg and being able to officially welcome them to this amazing campus is one of the reasons I love this organization so much.
When I moved in I was intimidated and just overall scared about what I was getting myself into. The OWLs welcomed me with open arms and moved all of my luggage into my room within a few minutes. It was an incredibly smooth transition which I’m truly thankful for and I hope that everyone I help has that same smooth transition.
What I wish I knew in high school
The best tip that I can offer to High School seniors when they come to college is NEVER be afraid to be yourself. Get out of your comfort zone and try new things, or just get involved on campus in general! You could find the club/organization that fits you perfectly.
College is the time for you to discover who you truly are. Do what you like to do, and spend time with the people that make you the happiest. One lesson that I have learned at college, is that time is an incredibly valuable thing to have. It can go by so fast when you are having fun, and it’s hard to believe that I’m almost a junior in college.
A few more tips I want to throw out there are to eat well and get enough sleep! You will be experiencing new stresses in life and it’s important to take care of yourself as you transition from high school to college. Finally, stay in contact with your friends and family from home while you’re away at college! If you ever have any questions for me feel free to contact me, and I can’t wait to see all of you during Preview Days and Welcome Weekend!
