To function in the role of a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner performing acts of medical diagnosis or prescription of medical, therapeutic, or corrective measures in collaboration with, and under the direction of a physician licensed to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Examines student patients reporting to the health center or triaged from Registered Nurses, obtains a medical history and performs a physical examination.
Performs appropriate diagnostic tests available in the office, or orders diagnostic tests through an approved outside agency or laboratory.
Interprets and reports the results of such studies to the patient.
Develops an appropriate treatment plan.
Prescribes medications and treatments in accordance with standards of practice for the Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner.
Sees patients for follow-up and outcome assessment.
Works independently within professional parameters; determines when to involve a physician on a case.
Provides health counseling and patient education.
Refers patients when appropriate, according to professional judgment, or after consultation with collaborating physician to hospital emergency rooms, to physician consultants, to community agencies for further evaluation and/or treatment; collaborates to insure continuity of care with other health care disciplines.
Manages medical records, test results, and other patient’s data in a manner to ensure confidentiality.
Participates in quality care and peer reviews.
Formulates and documents Progress Notes and other related reports.
Develops and participates in health education programs presented on campus.
Participates in periodic review and revision of Health Center maintenance, illness and counseling protocols in conjunction with other members of the Health Center Staff.
Assesses needs for staff education; collaborates with Health Center Director, assumes a lead role in developing and presenting in-service education programs for Health Center staff.
Prepare, review and revise written protocols in conjunction with Health Center Director.

Knowledge of the theory and practice of professional nursing
Knowledge of disease processes and their signs and symptoms
Skill in the application of techniques used in performing physical examinations
Ability to assess routine laboratory and diagnostic test results
Ability to work with a variety of medical, nursing and laboratory equipment
Ability to record accurate and detailed histories and records of patients
Ability to develop and implement plan of primary care to meet the needs of individual patients
Ability to communicate oral and written ideas clearly and precisely
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and health team members
Ability to recognize changes in patient’s overall condition and signs and systems that warrant physician referral
Master of Science in Clinical Nursing and Certification as a Registered Nurse Practitioner by the State of Nurse Examiners; with clinical specialty in family or adult practice and licensure as CRNP in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
1. Possession of certification in Family Health or Adult Health.
2. Experience in primary care or college health.
