Essential Elements of Position:

The incumbent performs skilled and semi-skilled work at the journeyman level in repairing and maintaining of related equipment. This position is considered an essential personnel position, and the employee will be required to report work in the event the University is closed due to emergency situations.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Accomplish various fabrications from blueprints, sketches, written and oral work orders.

Replace electrical motors that require disconnecting and reconnecting electricity to motor.

Troubleshoot and repair natural gas boilers and plumbing equipment.

Troubleshoot electrical, pneumatic and gas control circuits as well as other types of controls.

Inspect chillers, make necessary repairs, and add Freon when necessary.

Repair, service, and perform preventive maintenance on HVAC systems as necessary.

Repair, service, and perform preventive maintenance on stoves, freezers, fryers, and related kitchen appliances as necessary.

Installs, maintains, and repairs valves, faucets, traps, sinks, wash bowls, and other sanitary fixtures.

Locates and corrects power failures and short circuits.

Replaces bulbs, shades, switches and receptacles.

Inspects and maintains ventilating fans, and fire alarm systems.

Repairs desks, doors, drawers, shelves, screens, windows, and other carpentry related work as necessary.

Accomplish work in an orderly manner and clean work area upon completion of assignment. Inform supervisor of maintenance work to be accomplished and material and supplies used or needed for repairs or maintenance.

Perform snow and ice removal.

Participate in education and training courses as requested.

Performs related work as required.

Drive state vehicles to and from various worksites.

Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and practices used in at least two of the buildings, electrical or mechanical trades.

Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trades involved.

Skill in the care and use of tools and equipment used in trades involved.

Ability to detect defects in equipment and to make proper repairs or adjustments.

Ability to lead small group of semi-skilled workers.

Ability to interpret and work from pencil sketches and diagrams.

Sufficient physical strength to perform the lifting and moving of objects of approximately 50 pounds.

Minimum Experience and Training:

Two years of experience as a Maintenance Repairman 1; or four years of experience in building and plant maintenance work, which has involved at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades; or any equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the Required Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities.

Necessary Special Requirements:

1. PA Driver’s license.

2. Incumbent of this position must be certified with the Environmental Protection Agency in the handling and recovery of refrigerants or obtain the required certification within six (6) months of hire.

Applicants will be rated on the following criteria:

1) Ability to diagnose general mechanical and electrical issues.

2) Ability to communicate effectively with other trade professionals.

3) Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on equipment and tools.

4) Ability to effectively handle, mix and store chemicals in accordance with MSDS.

5) Experience utilizing and maintaining hand tools and power hand tools.

Finalist must communicate well and successfully complete an interview.

Prior to a final offer of employment the selected candidate will be required to submit to a background check including, but not limited to, employment verification, educational and credential verification and criminal background check.
