Bloomsburg University of PA invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level (AA# 41-2-151) to begin fall semester 2013. We seek a geographer who specializes in cartography and GIS. The successful candidate will teach upper-level courses in cartography, geospatial analysis and GIS, and introductory-level geography courses to complete a 12-hour per semester teaching load. Preference will be given to candidates with a focus on environmental applications that will complement the newly formed Center for Earth and Environmental Sciences within the Department of Environmental, Geographical and Geological Sciences. A Ph.D. in geography or a related field from an accredited institution is required by August 24, 2013; exceptional ABDs considered with a contingency contract.
The preferred candidate will have experience teaching in classroom and laboratory settings, a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and research, and demonstrate an ability to work with diverse populations. Instructional delivery can occur through on-line, traditional, and alternative instructional methods and can occur on main campus or off-site educational locations. Voluntary summer contracts may be available. Finalists for this position must communicate well and successfully complete an interview process that includes a research presentation and/or a teaching demonstration. The successful candidate must be recommended by the majority of the regular, full-time faculty. Prior to a final offer of employment the selected candidate will be required to submit to a background check including, but not limited to, employment verification, educational and other credential verification and criminal background check.
