The Department of Art and Art History at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, a student-focused institution, seeks a high-energy, dedicated individual to participate in shaping our department’s new graphic design concentration (AA#30-3-35/Ext). Assistant professor, tenure-track, starting fall 2014. Salary competitive and commensurate with experience. The studio art program at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania is committed to a strong interdisciplinary fine arts curriculum stressing both technical and conceptual skills combined with theoretical and practical experience in graphic design. Candidates should be active designers with a portfolio representing innovative conceptual and strategic thinking, strengths in typography and interactive design, design fluency across media, and technology skills. The position requires a commitment to curriculum development, including new courses in the candidate’s area of expertise and overseeing an efficient digital Mac lab. Additional responsibilities include energetic participation in departmental activities including advising students, collaboration with colleagues and other departmental service opportunities, engagement in college and university committees and an active artistic/design practice. Voluntary summer and winter contracts may be available.
M.F.A. required by August 15, 2014 in graphic design/interactive design or related area, successful teaching experience beyond T.A., and a strong record of current exhibitions or professional activity required. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations preferred. Finalist(s) must communicate well and successfully complete an interview process and research presentation along with a teaching demonstration as judged by the department faculty. Recommendation for hiring is needed by the majority of the regular, full-time department faculty.
