The Department of Developmental Instruction invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track, Developmental Mathematics Instructor, at the Assistant Professor level. We are seeking candidates with a strong commitment to teaching, scholarship, service, diversity, and continuing professional development.


Successful applicants will be expected to teach, refine, and reinforce math skills and support regularly admitted students as well as those enrolled in the ACT 101/EOP program through advising and tutoring when assigned. Candidates must relate effectively with ACT 101/EOP students, identify their academic needs and recommend appropriate supportive services. Successful candidates need to be flexible and innovative in meeting academic needs of different populations. In addition to teaching and advising, the successful applicant must maintain ongoing scholarship related to their specialty, provide service to the department and university and be responsible for other assignments deemed necessary to strengthen the operation of the department. This is a full-time tenure track position at the Assistant Professor rank in the Department of Developmental Instruction. Instructional delivery can occur through traditional, online and alternative methods and on the main campus or off-site educational locations. Voluntary contracts teaching in summer enrichment programs or winter term may be available.


The successful candidate has completed the requirements for a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Developmental Education, or related field from an accredited higher education institution prior to August 22, 2014. Finalists must have at least three years’ experience in teaching mathematics at secondary and/or college level; demonstrated ability to work with underprepared students and diverse populations; evidence of depth and breadth of knowledge about the importance of diversity in higher education as it relates to race, ethnicity, students with disabilities, economic status, religion, gender, and LGBTA.

The preferred candidate will provide evidence of excellent written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills and leadership skills; the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and others within the university setting; evidence of scholarly activity as it relates to mathematics, mathematics education, and developmental education; evidence of flexibility and innovation in the teaching of mathematics to underprepared and/or diverse populations.

Finalist(s) for this position must communicate well and successfully complete an interview process and teaching demonstration as judged by the department faculty. Recommendation for hiring is needed by the majority of the regular, full-time faculty within the Department of Developmental Instruction.
