Bryson Purcell, new student orientation intern

Hi! My name is Bryson Purcell and I am a Business Education major with a minor in Information Technology Management (ITM) here at BU!

OWL Bryson Purcell

I am originally from Mount Carmel, PA which is only located about 35 minutes away from Bloomsburg. Throughout the Spring and Summer terms I will be the Orientation Technology Intern within the office.

In addition to being an OWL, I am also the student assistant for the Admissions Office, which allows me to watch students grow from the time they come for their first official campus visit, leading all the way up to Welcome Weekend and their first weeks of college courses!

Why I chose Bloomsburg University

Actually, I didn't chose Bloomsburg University at first! I am a transfer student from Pennsylvania College of Technology. While I was there I was in their Physicians Assistant Program and quickly found out the medical field wasn't for me (at least working in a lab wasn't!)

After one semester I decided to transfer closer to home and attend BU because they are well-known for their education program and I can honestly say it has been one of the best decisions of my life!

What is your favorite part about Orientation?

Interacting with all of the families is by far my favorite part of orientation, you can see the emotional rollercoaster that they are all riding throughout Preview Days and Welcome Weekend. There have been countless times that I will see a nervous parent/student checking-in at 8 a.m. and by the time they are leaving for the day they seem like they've got it under control and in return, calming down others around them!

What I wish I knew as a high school senior

It's okay to change your mind! Just during my college career I changed schools, major, and added a minor all within my first year of school! You're a senior in high school and it's alright to not be 100 percent sure of the next 50 years of your life, chances are that their are people who are in their 40's & 50's that still haven't made up their mind yet. Explore this university, explore yourself, and explore what life has to offer!
