PHEAA State Grants
PHEAA State Grants are designed for full-time and part-time undergraduate students taking at least six credit hours per semester who are residents of Pennsylvania. Students must be enrolled in a degree program.
These grants range from approximately $200 to $1,619 per semester. To apply for the 2013-2014 academic year, students must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid by May 1, 2013.
Some students also will be required to complete the PHEAA Grant Status Notice, which will be mailed to the student by PHEAA.
To remain eligible, students must maintain satisfactory progress and plan to complete their bachelor's degree within eight semesters. The satisfactory progress requirements for PHEAA State Grant differ from federal requirements.
Students must earn twelve credits for each full-time semester of PHEAA State Grant received and six credits for each part-time PHEAA State Grant received. Passing grades in developmental courses may be used in two semesters during a student's academic career to help meet PHEAA's academic progress requirement if that course was also used to satisfy PHEAA's full or part-time enrollment guidelines. For example, if a student is registered for nine degree credits and three developmental credits, all earned credits would apply to PHEAA's satisfactory progress requirement. If a student registered for nine degree credits and six developmental credits, only three of the developmental credits could be used to satisfy PHEAA's satisfactory progress requirement.

You need to be enrolled a minimum of 6 credits during the summer term to receive a summer PHEAA State Grant. In addition you must be enrolled the entire summer May 20 to August 9 to qualify. The summer semester counts towards the maximum eight semesters of eligibility. Summer PHEAA State Grant applications available online.
